I’m a Leo. Summertime has always been special for me. What better time to fall in love? Oh, the summer nights! Visiting the boardwalk at the Jersey shore or the local firefighters’ carnival. Holding hands with a special guy while walking the beach at the lake, watching fireflies—lightning bugs as we called them—in the trees.

One such memory inspired a scene for Just Beyond the Garden Gate...

She stared in awe. The faerie knoll was a mysterious place. Hundreds of small dazzling white lights flickered around them. The sparkling lights hovered near the ground and up high, in the grass atop the knoll and in the nearby tree branches. The scene reminded her of her childhood, of watching lightning bugs, little glowing fireflies dancing in the night. She thought the sight amazing, and beautiful.

“This place is known as the Sithichean Sluaigh. Legend has it the knoll is a habitat for faeries. I have heard the old folk say beams of brightly colored light are seen here on starless nights,” Patrick said with a dancing twinkle in his eyes.

    1. Hey, Morgan! I loved going to the drive-in. We'd play at the playground before the show started then change into our jammies. Such a great family outing. Shame few still exist.

    1. Hi, Laurie! I love the smell of an ocean breeze. During college, I hung out at the beach with friends in Belmar NJ. Beach blankets and chairs with barely room to walk between. Great fun!

Actually, I think my favorite summertime memory is when my daddy would take us camping and fishing. iI can remember our family of 4 going with my mother's sister's family of 4 to the northern mountains in NM. We four kids had a ball together, playing, hiking, fetching water, etc. Of course, we weren't the ones doing the work of setting up the camp or cooking on a campfire.

That's many years ago - My sister & I and our 2 cousins are now all grandparents! Our own parents have been gone for several years, and my younger sister is now the *glue* between us cousins. :)

    1. Sounds like a great memory, Donna. My family camped also. We had a pop-up trailer and traveled and camped at a lot of the National parks and local state parks. Our pop-up wasn't like the ones they have today. It was a canvas tent on a metal base. Great fun!

    1. Hi, Caroline! The beach seems to be a big hit with our memories. I recently moved to Southern Maryland and we sometimes listen to the Delmarva NPR station. They often mention Rehobeth Beach. :)

  8. My favorite summer memory was when I got to spend the entire summer with my grandparents, I usually only got to see them once or twice a year. My grandmother taught me how to quilt and my grandfather took me fishing. I had the best time ever. Thanks for sharing the hop and the giveaways. evamillien at gmail dot com
