#TimeTravelTues #Snippet - Just Once in a Verra Blue Moon by Dawn Marie Hamilton

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EP5EWP0

A bright light burst behind his eyelids.

He fell. The sensation of weightlessness overcame him. Changing colors swirled around in slow motion, flashing and dulling erratically. His mind separated from his physical body. He watched, as if from another realm.

Falling downward, down…down…down, into a black expanse of nothingness. All color faded from existence. His mind merged with the dark. Blackness surrounded him, enveloping him, frightening him. He thought to scream, but the sound choked on the lump in his throat.

The speed of his descent increased.

Colors erupted. Lights flashed.

“What the—”

He sped toward a narrow opening, and once there was sucked through into a dull gray sky. Still, he fell.

Water flowed below him—a rushing river.

His body took on weight, becoming heavier as he dropped. He slammed hard against the water and plunged into the cold, murky depths.

New Release: Just Within a Highland Mist by Dawn Marie Hamilton

Available for Kindle and
Nook at an introductory
 $0.99 until May 3rd.
Fae pixies are meddling with Gregor's heart...

Gregor MacLachlan returns to Castle Lachlan, where he fostered as a green lad, ignoring rumors of fae activity. As a warrior with his cousin’s elite private guard, he hopes to prove to the clan he’s matured and has worth. A trio of pesky pixies have other plans for his heart. While hunting, a wayward shot from his bow nearly hits a strange lass who appears as if by magic.

Emily Smith follows one of the young boys in her care onto a forbidden mound in the woods behind the local garden center’s display garden and wakes in a strange bed, in a place and time not her own. Can she rise above the heartache caused by the untimely death of her fiancé and find love in the arms of the dark-eyed stranger who becomes her champion?

Emily gazed at her new husband with awe. It didn’t matter they were strangers. She sensed there was something special between them, perhaps magical, something that bound them together even though they were from different places. Different times.
She studied his full lips, anticipating the feel of them against her mouth. She moistened her lips, wanting him more than she would have imagined possible only a few days prior.
His pupils dilated, and he sucked in a ragged breath. He lifted a loose tendril of her hair and tucked it behind an ear. His calloused fingers brushed along the sensitive skin at the nape of her neck.
Fire and ice. She shivered. A delicious chill tingled over her shoulder blades. Why was he making her wait?

Winter Solstice and Twelvetide by Dawn Marie Hamilton

In 2015, the Winter Solstice takes place on December 21st at 11:48 P.M. EST—the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year.

To many, the Twelve Days of Christmas fall between Christmas and the Epiphany. To others the festival of Yule begins on the eve of the Winter Solstice and continues for twelve nights ending on Twelfth Night—New Year’s Eve.

“During this time of Yule, we honor the beginning of the sun’s return and the breaking of winter. Let the evening’s feasting begin.”

~Lachlan Og, Chief of Clan MacLachlan

Excerpted from Twelvetide: Twelve Nights of Highland Magic,
an Enchanted Highlands novella by Dawn Marie Hamilton

Twlevetide: Twelve Nights of Highland Magic, one of three holiday novellas in the Enchanted Highlands collection, begins on the eve of the Winter Solstice with the dark moment climaxing just prior to Twelfth Night. Twlevetide—the twelve nights of Yule.

A variety of celebratory diversions were enjoyed by the well-to-do during Yule and, perhaps, shared with their people or clan: feasting, storytelling, masking, music, and dance, along with other revelry,

‘Twas also considered a time when supernatural forces roamed freely—when the spirits of the dead returned to earth.

“Every year on the winter solstice the veil between realms thins and then tears and as Twelvetide progresses the breach between the earth and the otherworld allows all manner of supernatural creatures, including the spirits of the dead, like me, to travel through and roam the earth.”

“Aye. During the twelve days, the fiercest of spirits—men, horses, hellhounds—follow their leader on wild hunts, riding the stormy night skies, causing havoc and mayhem.”

~Caelan Innes

Excerpted from Twelvetide: Twelve Nights of Highland Magic,
an Enchanted Highlands novella by Dawn Marie Hamilton

Enchanted Highlands is available at Amazon for 99 cents or free with Kindle Unlimited.

Coming June 21st—Highland Charm, a Collection of First Fantasies. Romances from Kathryn Lynn Davis, April Holthaus, Victoria Zak, and Dawn Marie Hamilton

Four full length romance novels of Scottish myth, fantasy and legend!

Coming June 21st!

 Available only for the Summer.

CHILD OF AWE by KATHRYN LYNN DAVIS

From the moment of her birth, Muriella Calder is heiress to a great fortune many Highland clans desire to make their own. Touched by The Sight, she struggles to understand herself, while fighting those who threaten her world: the violent clans who relish war; her cunning guardian, Archibald Campbell, the powerful Earl of Argyll—callously ambitious, and bound by loyalty to the Crown; John Campbell, the Earl’s second son—a strong, experienced warrior on the battlefield—who cannot begin to understand the mysterious woman he is forced to wed; and Elizabeth Campbell Maclean, a gentle woman whose heart is forfeit in a treaty with a man her father hates.

Completely captivating, Child of Awe carries the reader from the wild beauty of mist-shrouded glens to the horrors of war, from the hatred of ancient feuds to the wonder of new love: enchanting us, heart and soul, with the seamless skill of a genuine storyteller.

LEGEND OF THE FAE by APRIL HOLTHAUS

The Legend begins…

After returning home from battle against a neighboring clan, Laird Galen Graham stumbles upon an injured woman in desperate need of care and protection. Wanting to return her to her family becomes a difficult task when he discovers the lass cannot speak. While trying to solve the mystery behind who she is, Galen finds himself falling in love with a lass he knows nothing about.

Ella of Andor, knows nothing but wickedness and blood thirst for power as she follows in the footsteps of her predecessor, Alaris; a dark Fae queen. But while heading on a quest to ensure her people’s victory against their enemy, she is led to the heart of the Highlands where she soon discovers the truth about her past that would change her life forever.

HIGHLAND BURN by VICTORIA ZAK

Will Love's Flame Quench the Dragon's Fire? ...

The past never stays in the past, it rears its ugly head eventually. James the Black Douglas knows this all too well. With a past that has left him vengeful and his dragon blood thirsty, his reputation as a ruthless warrior haunts his enemies in their sleep. As his allegiance stands with Robert Bruce, the King of Scotland, he must now repay a debt to the king and agrees to marry his daughter, Abigale Bruce. The problem is he doesn't want a wife. When flames start to burn out of control between him and the auburn-haired lass, he must decide to either kindle the flames of passion or shelter her from the truth and set her free.

It's What Shines in the Dark That Brings Forth Your True Light...

Determined to keep his daughter safe and out of the hands of the English, Robert hides Abigale behind the safe walls of a nunnery. After eight long years of living her life in seclusion, Abigale is finally set free. But her new found freedom comes to an abrupt halt when she learns of her betrothal to the infamous Bogeyman - James the Black Douglas. She soon finds herself falling in love with the uncontainable and haunted man. Is her love enough to soften his hardened heart?

JUST BEYOND THE GARDEN GATE by DAWN MARIE HAMILTON

Determined to regain her royal status, a banished faerie princess accepts a challenge from the High-Queen of the Fae to unite an unlikely couple while the clan brownie attempts to thwart her.

Passion ignites when a faerie-shove propels burned-out business consultant Laurie Bernard through the garden gate, back through time, and into the embrace of Patrick MacLachlan. The arrogant clan chief doesn’t know what to make of the lass in his arms, especially when he recognizes the brooch she wears as the one his stepmother wore when she and his father disappeared.

With the fae interfering at every opportunity, the couple must learn to trust one another while they battle an enemy clan, expose a traitor within their midst and discover the true fate of the missing parents. Can they learn the most important truth—love transcends time?

I'm very excited about this collection of first fantasies romances. I hope you will be too!

Sneak Peek Sunday #SPeekSunday: Just Once in a Verra Blue Moon

Caitrina is the banished, halfling faerie princess from the Highland Gardens series so, just for fun, today's Sneak Peek is another Caitrina excerpt from Just Once in a Verra Blue Moon...

E-book:
Amazon,  Amazon UK,
Kobo, Smashwords, Apple,
and Barnes&Noble.

Trade Paperback:
Amazon, BAM, and
Barnes&Noble.
Caitrina appeared in the largest of the caverns in the maze of caves and tunnels northwest of Castle Carrick. Her nose twitched. The stench of sulfur lingered in the air, though Seumus wasn’t present. The wizard had deserted his lair.

She’d missed the opportunity to battle with the squirrelly old man.

Scanning the chamber, she found the table in the center contained the remnants of his attempts to unlock the power of Finn’s claymore. Her claymore.

Drip. Drip. Drip. The echo from the constant drip of water scraped over Caitrina’s nerves. She picked up the jar closest to her and hurled it. Glass shattered against rough stone, splintering, flying in every direction. Thick orange goo oozed along the walls.

That felt good. She stretched her back and picked up a small crock, and threw it across the chamber. Every container on the table met the same fate. When she finished, Caitrina glared at the debris, causing sparks to erupt. As she dissolved into a fine mist, consuming flames spread across the chamber, devouring everything in their path.

Traveling through the void of space, Caitrina sent out her senses to probe for the whereabouts of the wizard and the claymore.

Sneak Peek Sunday #SPeekSunday: Just Once in a Verra Blue Moon

The other day, a reader asked if there were any characters from previous books demanding their story. Well, yeah! Caitrina, the halfling faerie princess from the Highland Gardens series. She will get her story, but I have a few others in the works first. So I thought for Sneak Peek Sunday, I'd share a Caitrina excerpt.

From Just Once in a Verra Blue Moon...

E-book:
Amazon,  Amazon UK,
Kobo, Smashwords, Apple,
and Barnes&Noble.

Trade Paperback:
Amazon, BAM, and
Barnes&Noble.
“Easy, lass.” Douglas grabbed her by the upper arms. “I wouldn’t want you to fall off this ridge.”

“Take your hands off of me, you Neanderthal.”

He pulled her against his thick chest. Fates, he felt good. “What were you doing with the queen?” he demanded.

She gasped. How could he possibly know of Oonagh?

Caitrina leaned her head back and stared into his amber eyes, searching for truth. “Who are you?”

“Someone to watch over you.” He lowered his head and kissed her hard on the lips, curling her toes.

Author Nancy Lee Badger with A Scottish Appetite, My Lady Highlander, and a #Giveaway

It's my pleasure to have author Nancy Lee Badger visiting today with a discussion of Scottish food and her new novel My Lady Highlander. Oh, and hang onto your seat, Nancy is gifting two copies of My Lady Highlander. Enter via the Rafflecopter widget at the end of the post.

A Scottish Appetite

A garden is a marvelous thing and I wish I had a green thumb. My husband and I planted beans, corn, and other less memorable veggies back when we first bought our 1860’s farmhouse in Rumney, New Hampshire. It grew and grew. Days before harvesting, the groundhogs stripped the beans clean, and a bear took out all the corn. We watched the groundhogs chomping the beans, but never saw the bear…or deer, or moose. Whatever it was, they had smashed the cornrows to the ground.

We tried again years later, and placed a long, narrow garden along the fence in the front yard, away from the acres of forest that so easily hid veggie-stealing creatures. The rhubarb grew well, and I made strawberry rhubarb pie. The snow peas? My boys ate most of them off the vine before I could bring them in for dinner.

When we moved to the south, we bought a home with a yard of hard-packed red clay. No more gardening for us, but while visiting a few Scottish festivals, I did chance upon ideas for my books, which take place partly in early 17th century Scotland. Scotland is known for some certain ethnic foods—think haggis and shortbread. However, the ancient people ate many things.

Hunters were important to a village or clan. Deer, also known as venison when slaughtered, were a main food source in the Highlands, as well as pine martin, a type of small weasel. Game birds and fish were also available. Farmers tended flocks of sheep—known on their dinner tables as mutton.
Highland cows, a red-haired hardy strain of beef, were common. There is an age-old story about reivers…usually a band of young men from one clan who would steel cows from another clan, to prove their manliness.

Root vegetables that could grow quickly in the harsh climate filled harvest baskets from spring to autumn. Carrots, in particular, show up in my latest book My Lady Highlander. I also mention apples growing on my heroine’s farm, and any meal was tastier with home-brewed Scottish ale. Add a loaf of crusty bannock, a type of bread. Finish off the meal with sweet, heavy chunks of shortbread, and people in Scotland were happy until the next meal.

The weather sometimes made for long, cold winters, but the Scots learned to harvest and preserve the basics, and feed themselves oatmeal cakes softened in whisky when the larder grew bare. Snuggling by a fire, sipping honey ale and nibbling on deer jerky sustained them until spring brought renewal and rebirth.

Me? I live within walking distance of a great little supermarket.

Here is an excerpt where I use food and drink to bring my characters closer:

“ ‘Tis quite dark, down here,” Izzy said. Pushing with both palms, the top of the barrel slid sideways. The scent of heather, honey, and fermented ale filled her nose. She half-filled the bucket then passed it up to Bull.
“Only half? What are you going to drink?”
Izzy grinned up at Bull from where she huddled in the dark root cellar. With danger all around them, and others in search of them, he could make a joke about a bucket of ale? “Och, yer a funny man. We shall share the ale. We need our wits about us, for whatever the night hides.”
“And, we’ll face the dawn together,” he whispered.
Her heart fluttered. Glancing around the small space of her family’s underground storage room, the total darkness was eerie. Scurrying creatures and the buzz of small insects made her hurry. Covering the ale barrel, she searched the shelves where she and her mother once stored their winter provisions. When she grabbed a familiar vegetable, relief swept through her.
“Carrots,” she whispered. The threat of others occupying the nearby cottage set her teeth on edge. She dropped the bunch into her gathered skirt, then climbed out of the dusty storage room. Bull climbed down from the loft, where he must have taken the bucket.
“What’s that, sweetheart?” he whispered, pointing to the feathery tops peeking from her skirt’s folds.
“Sustenance.”

My Lady Highlander Book Blurb

Isobel MacHamish escaped a betrothal in ancient Scotland. She rebuilt her life in present-day New England, yet something-or someone-is missing. Arson, thievery, a stalker, and a handsome caber-tossing athlete turn her world upside down.

Bryce Buchanan saves a pretty woman-twice. Sent back to ancient Scotland-again-he is trapped between the skittish woman, and a man pressuring her into marriage. Battles, swords, a Scottish brownie, and a power-hungry laird make ‘Bull’ want to head home to New England.

To escape her former lover, and his murderous, father, Izzy finds her inner warrior. And, when the handsome athlete shows her what falling in love can bring, she is torn, because keeping her hands to herself, is one battle she will never win.

Welcome to Sneak Peek Sunday. As a follow up to last weeks excerpt: although early December, Kimberly has gone to the beach to watch the sunrise and surfers...

E-book available from Amazon,
Amazon UK,
  Smashwords, Apple, and Barnes&Noble.
Trade paperback available
at Amazon and Barnes&Noble.
Watching the sunrise had been a soothing distraction, but it was time to head back. She strolled across the street to the Victorian B&B and the hot breakfast hopefully waiting. After slipping into the foyer, she hurried past the noisy dining room and ran up the stairs to drop off the blanket and coat. With most of the guests already downstairs, the empty hall seemed too quiet.

Kimberly slid the card key into the slot, opened the door and—froze.

The curtains performed a macabre dance, billowing in the breeze from the open sliding glass door.

No! God, no.

Denial screamed in her mind, turning to fear as her gaze frantically darted around the room. Closet doors hung ajar. Drawers from the dresser sat on the floor in disarray. Clothing lay scattered on every surface.

She stumbled back and ran along the hall and down the stairs. The rapid pounding of her heart made her stomach churn. Panting, she rushed through the parlor to the office.

Sneak Peek Sunday (#SPeekSunday): Sea Panther

Welcome to Sneak Peek Sunday. If you've stopped by for the Spring Fling Blog Hop, you can click here. But I hope you'll check out the Sneak Peek below first.

Robert's reaction to meeting Kimberly...

E-book available from Amazon,
Amazon UK,
  Smashwords, Apple, and Barnes&Noble.
Trade paperback available
at Amazon and Barnes&Noble.
The simple act of returning the woman’s scarf had taken a dangerous turn when their fingers touched. Robert managed to control the vampire by sheer will alone. Nonetheless, the power surge coursing through his veins from the brief contact with the lass awakened the panther. He barely made it to the tall grass on the outskirts of town before being claimed by the transformation.

He chose not to fight the change. He welcomed it with every fiber of his being.

Heart raced. Blood throbbed at his temples and a tortured curse escaped his lips. He discarded his garments and clenched his teeth. Muscles ripped and tendons snapped and bones distorted to conform to the panther’s shape. Coarse golden fur tipped with a reddish tinge rippled over bare skin, making him quiver with urgency.

Nostrils flared, he sniffed the salty breeze. There would be precious few moments for his pleasure before the beast seized complete control.

He darted through the salt marsh, paws sinking into moist earth. His growl sounded out a soul-wrenching lament on the injustice of his life. Robert couldn’t shake the feminine image of the tall graceful woman with brown curls and haunted chocolate eyes. The desire to mate shook him to the core.

Far from the trappings of civilization, he slowed to a rhythmic lope. He hoped no one found the tracks. The headlines would be sensational.

Sneak Peek Sunday: 'Sea Panther'

Welcome to Sneak Peek Sunday. Kimberly is staying at a B&B in Cape May, New Jersey...

E-book available from Amazon,
Amazon UK,
  Smashwords, Apple, and Barnes&Noble.
Trade paperback available
at Amazon and Barnes&Noble.
While waiting for the hostess, she perused the want ads pinned to a bulletin board next to the counter. One in particular drew her attention and she read the notice a second time…

90-ft. sloop SEA PANTHER seeking fifth crewmember for coastal cruise, leaving Cape May on 11 Dec., docking Charleston, SC for refit, continuing on to Florida and the Caribbean. Experience required. Fair wages. Inquire at Rusty Scupper.

If only she’d the nerve to reply to the ad, she could sail away from all her problems. Taking off would be a major cop-out, but the fantasy of escaping from a messed up life offered a certain appeal. And she did need a job.

“Would you prefer to sit at a booth or the counter?” A college-aged girl with a blond ponytail interrupted Kimberly’s thoughts.

“A booth, please.” Kimberley’s stomach gave off a soft gurgle as she slid into the offered seat. Hoping no one heard, she pressed a hand to her belly and concentrated on the menu.

Nothing appealed. She hadn’t had an appetite in weeks. Not since learning the offshore deal she invested her savings in, along with the money of a few clients, failed. God, her life was such a mess.

Sneak Peek Sunday 'Sea Panther'

Welcome to Sneak Peek Sunday. If you dropped by for the #HopswithHeart Spring Fling Blog Hop click here. But I hope you'll also check out today's Sneak Peek.

Woo hoo! Sea Panther has released. So what is Kimberly's first impression of Robert?

E-book available from Amazon,
Amazon UK,
  Smashwords, Apple, and Barnes&Noble.
Trade paperback available
at Amazon.
The drop dead gorgeous man who stood before her oozed sensual heat from every pore of his over six feet of muscle clothed in black jeans, form-fitting leather jacket, and biker boots.

The gaze she ran over the length of him was probably too obvious. Irrepressible though. The man’s short, tawny-brown hair with a slight reddish tinge was styled to spiky perfection. A firm square jaw filled out a rugged face. And his eyes…

Humor flashed in the expressive cinnamon-brown gaze and his sexy full lips parted into a slash of a grin, displaying perfect white teeth. She couldn’t refrain from gasping.

A Bad Boy. Her spine tingled with—could it be attraction?

Without a sound, he moved closer.

Her stare froze on a scar. The thin line marred the side of his handsome face from the corner of the right eye, across the cheek to his chin, making him appear…dangerous.

Sneak Peek Sunday and Giveaway: 'Sea Panther'

Less than five days until the release of Sea Panther on Thursday, March 20th. Let's meet Kimberly...

Pre-order at:
Apple
Cheerful carolers serenaded from hidden speakers. The way-too-joyous music taunted Kimberly as she wandered along the Cape May avenue, peering into storefronts glittered with holiday decorations. She crossed empty arms and hugged herself. She hadn’t purchased anything. What little cash remained in her stash would be needed when the week’s reprieve ended.

The chill of the evening wasn’t a bother. There was no need to hurry. Besides, she had nowhere to go.

She halted in front of a display of sinful pastries. Along with the tantalizing scents of nutmeg and cinnamon wafting from the bakery, an overload of better-time memories swept over her. She blinked several times, refusing to get weepy.

After spending a better part of the day trying to rise above the malaise, she still felt like crap. Neither the seasonal splendor nor the afternoon of window-shopping had done much to dispel the remnants of the nightmares.

The memory of the dreams and the related sensation of being chased made her shudder. And if that wasn’t enough to frighten, the thought of a hit man—

Enough of that. Kimberly stiffened her spine and turned away from the images in her mind. A prickle teased the base of her neck, and she increased the pace. Could the rumor be true? Was someone following her?

Sneak Peek Sunday and Giveaway: Sea Panther

Eleven days and counting until the release of Sea Panther on March 20th. So very excited! Here is another sneak peek from Chapter One...

Available for pre-order
at Apple.
“Has Dr. Knight made any progress?”

Hope beat in rhythm with Robert’s blackened heart. The much-acclaimed ethnologist, who specialized in Caribbean Voodoo, was the most recent addition to the staff at the scientific foundation he funded in the Florida Everglades. The world believed the assorted experts in his employ researched the endangered Florida panther.

He choked on a dry chuckle. Their true objective was to find a cure for his malady. Dammit, they had better discover a solution soon, or darkness would claim what little remained of his humanity. Colin watched him expectantly.

“The good doctor is diligent, searching through piles of dusty historical texts. There are a few theories. Nothing concrete.” Robert released a frustrated breath. “I realize after tonight how desperate my need has become. I must return to Florida and undergo more tests. One of those expensive scientists on my payroll better find a cure before I destroy another human life.”

His friend clasped his upper arm. “I’ll see to the lass.”

“Aye, and arrange to have blood delivered at each port of call. I will not risk any more innocents.”
